I've been lax updating this build thread...
Lot of things have happened since the end of Jan, I'll condense down with a photo dump and copy-paste off my other 2 threads.

Decked the pan and finished the sump flange.

With the sump flange.

Some pics of the flywheel.

Surfacing with the toolpost grinder (yeah, yeah, should have had it done on a flywheel grinder... Byte me... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> )

Before the dowels were set in.

Also turned the starter down to 110mm from 114mm to help clear the oil pan.

Can you say complete flywheel? I can!

I threw the water pump housing on the CMM, and pulled all the feature data I could with it, mostly hole centers, the outer profile, etc.

Then it was using the good old protractor and calipers to get what I couldn't easily get on the CMM, and completing a solid model.

Yep, I'm making a custom water pump housing, because I can.

Well, more to it than that...

You see, there's this knot of thermostat housing that looks like an aorta, a 3 inch section of rubber hose that will always leak like a sieve at the worst possible time, and can't be easily replaced because it's an odd metric size (I forget the size, but it's not even a standard metric one iirc...).
The water pump's neck also comes out at exactly the wrong place, with more than 5 inches of casting sticking out from the side of the block.
It takes up most of the front passenger side of the head, and is nicely in the way of everything...

Add to that the fact that the AC compressor is ~an inch in front of the turbine housing (if I put a turbo on that is) and I can't move it down lower on the block because it will hit said knot of goobermess.

I currently have everything stripped off the block, but you can see it in the upper right corner of this pic I shamelessly yanked from Google images.

The stock water pump will be used with the housing, and the neck will be brought out to a convenient fitting instead of the mess it is now.
The thermostat will get it's own remote housing, and an adapter flange will direct the head flow in a more manageable direction as well.

Here's the pics from last week.

Who wants to see a pass side motor-mountectomy?
This was completed Monday with the Sawzall and a TORCH metal demolition blade. I can't get enough of those blades, they cut through anything like a knife through butter...

Cut off section of mount set along side.

I'll need to go at it with an angle grinder to get the rest off, the sawzall turns pogo stick that close to the frame. And I don't feel like killing the A-Arm mounts...

Not much more since Tuesday had me stuck to my bed with a 101 deg fever...

Did you solve the oil pump/dwaybar interference? With your machine tool access, make some spacers to lower the front swaybar mounts to drop the bar for clearance, OR, mount it to the rear instead of to the front, which may get you into a whole 'nother nest of snakes...

Not responsible for advice not taken...

I'm actively looking for a turbo crank and pump, so far I haven't found either divorced from their engine...

Swaybar interference is moot now that I've got the upper pan, it's all hinging on the oil pump not hitting frame...

Still sicker than hell... this is more than a 24 hour bug it seems...

Yes, I am alive.

I had decided to take a little over a month hiatus from the truck, I was getting a bit burnt out from everything.

I acquired a turbo engine crank, cam, oil pump, valves, injection timer, etc etc as well, so now it's just a matter of doing some work on the oil pump to make it fit all nice nice.

I'll throw some more pics in here, as well as merge my other build threads in when I find the time.
