I have rebuilt a few auto's. Sure you alwyas find somd clutch particles in them when you open them up. It's kind of a fine silt that drops out of the oil. I have never seen fresh fluid pick that stuff up, its hard enough to remove with a blast of solvent.

I'm all for fresh fluid , seals deteriorate faster with old fluid. Leaking internal seals is why those additives help some units. If you ever rebuild a unit that has used the additive the O rings are swelled up like you cant believe, it really makes a mess of them, but if it gets the unit working.

Short story, fresh fluid is a good thing and while you have the pan off re torque the valve body.

Les, I didn't end up going to San Jose, but found out that the San Jose store makes deliveries to Cardinale for service related issues that the dealership is still on the hook for. I went back and talked to the parts guy that I always did business with at Cardinale and will be able to order parts to be delivered there as an option to driving out of town.

That said, I don't know if you wanted a filter, but it would have to be ordered in if you did.

I know times are tough, and I truly feel bad for those who are having a rough time. Their parts department really struck me as being un-helpful, unfortunately. I hope your experience was different. trans fluid has a ton of cleaners if you have ever seen a guy who builds them for a living his hands are very clean. a trans with lots of miles on it has build up on the friction material. When doing a trans flush with a machine it works like a blood transfusion it pushes old fluid out while putting new fluid in. at that point you will have all of that new fluid with all of its new cleaners cleaning the trans including your clutches and with a lot of miles that could cause slipage. I have worked in the lube industry for the past 15 years and we generaly wont touch a car that has over 100k on it if we dont know the history of service there are just to many comebacks. you could do a pan drop & change the filter and you should be fine because that will only remove abou 1/3 of the fluid. if its slipping now I wouldn't change it, it might do more harm than good

I dont understand how putting in new fluid is going to be worse than running old fluid?

Test the old fluid and every time you will find its loaded with contaminants and has lost viscosity. Low viscosity and comtaminants is a really bad combo.

mainly because of the detergants in new trans fluid. the clutches wear and if you havent changed the fluid on a regular basis they will wear faster and sludge will build up on them. if you put new fluid in it removes that sludge and can cause the trans to slip and smoetimes leak. now this only applies to a trans that has not been serviced on a regular basis. if your changing it on schedule the clutches wont wear as much and there will be a lot less sludge build up.

The Aisin transmission seems to be a different beast. My Raider Trans had brown fluid my first change. 3 changes in and nothing slipping or anyhing. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
