As you put your hand over the inlet did the motor start to pick up speed it try and die out?

If your lean at part thottle the only fix for that is a jet change, the mixture screw will only affect it when the throttle is closed.

How did the dist look?

And has the motor ever run right with the new carb or is this something that developed?
