Getting the Wheeling Fever
looks like the oil pump is on the front of the motor so if i get it when i change the balancer I will rebuild the pump and hope that takes care of the knock and oil pressure light

Sounds good. Definately let others chime in before you take my word for it. But FWIW, I would try.

I'd consider throwing in a new set of rod bearings as well.

One way to know without pulling the motor apart is to send a sample of the oil out to a lab like Blackstone.

A quicker , cheaper method is to pull the filter off and cut it apart and look for chunks of bearing insert. If you see pieces, the entire motor will need to be gone through.

If the filter looks clean the lab would be a good second test.
