hummm... Well, you need a turbo for your project, are you upgrading, going bigger or just buying new?
My guess is getting mine re-built with all new parts etc. will be $500 (balanced and done). That's just a guess but it seems right. Since I'd be getting mystery turbo (yes I know the truck was running) but it could die at any momment and since I've never made a joke about your windsheildl; $250? Or you can just buy the truck since you already have a turbo to put in it. I'll even deliver or pick up depending.
Depending on how mad I am at the truck I'll probably start diagnosing this weekend to make sure it really is the turbo. I half expect to pull the inlet off and have a litre of oil poor out.
Thanks for all the help guys.

I am not even sure what the plan is for that engine right now...not sure if I'm going to upgrade turbos or not. I'll think about it in the mean time as you figure out what's wrong with it.

Oh no.
That sucks buddy. How'd I miss this before?
Now hold on. Before you sound the alarm bells, where's your gauge reading? Make sure you haven't blown the wastegate line before you suspect the turbo. The 2800 with a blown wastegate line was a smoker, and lacking power. I imagine the 2500 would be an old, unscalded dog...
I'd start with that first...

I imagine the 2500 would be an old, unscalded dog... Judging by how hes mad at it Im sure its sufficiently scalded. Dont know about if its a scalded dog or not, it is a Pajero

Two good points. Unscalded "cat" might be more appropriate?

a blown wastegate line would only make it over fuel with no boost...that doesn't explain the massive oil consumption. My guess is either broken ring (hope not) or like Maurie said...either the turbo or head gasket.

Are you sure its consumption, and not just leakage from the vac pump? More smoke with the turbo offline is probably par for the course... just saying...

Mike described the trail of smoke behind me as being a kilometre long... I'm guessing oil consumption isn't related to the leak. I'm putting off diagnosing the problem because I'm affraid of fixing it.

I've now pulled off the EGR, EGT sender and, the turbo intake. There is no oil on the intake side of the turbo. No oil in the intake manifold and there is oil at the EGT sender. This makes me think my leak is on the exhasut side of the turbo. If it was in the head then I'd assume the oil would be burnt and not show up at the EGT sender. I'm two exhaust bolts away from having the trubo off. My new work strategy is to not touch the Pajero when I'm grumpy or angy. I think the Paj will appreciate the positive energy I give off and not hate me as much as it does right now. Really this is Phil's fault, he dumped Betsy IV and I'm her re-bound owner. Everyone know's rebound relationships never last.
