My opinion:

There are NO cons to the 2.8 unless you're counting your mileage closely. Fuel econ is not as good (not hugely different) but otherwise, it is a totally upgraded machine. Cold starts have zero drama. Even unplugged. Smoke is non-existent unless you want it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Vac pump is on the block, instead of sitting behind the alternator, waiting to give it a bath. Timing CHAIN. Larger diffs, trans.

Avail of parts? Not much diff from the 2.5. No I can't walk into Ford or Dodge and spec something from the 4D55, but how often do they have parts in stock for the old old diesels anyways?

I loved my 4D56, don't get me wrong. But this 4M40 is a different rig entirely. Having owned both, I would never go back.
