Getting the Wheeling Fever
Do you have to drain transfer case when you remove driveshaft. And if so how hard is it to fill back up?

Back shaft might leak a little. You can jack up to help. Front will leak more. Not sure if jacking up will help totally.

Before doing anything, make sure you can get the fill plug loose. Bad deal to drain first and find out it's stuck.

Filling isn't hard. The trick is to get a piece of hose to fit the end of the 1qt gear oil bottle. It makes it infinitely easier to squeeze and fill.

point it downhill to pull the dshaft and very little will leak out. buy a jackrabbit pump (hand cranked pinch tube type pump) or a little drill driven pump and a single washer water hose to fit on the hole fittings. Use either to pump the lube into the tcase/diff/m/t. No more hoses blowing off the slippery bottle, no more lube puddles. No more ruined tshirts with castor oil smelling lube juice on them. One of my best "made tools"...

I bought one of those push-pumps from the auto parts store -- the one that looks kind of like what you have in a lotion bottle or liquid soap bottle. Worked well for me <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I tried one of those, and it came apart under pumping forces with the viscous lube.

I don't drain the case, just put a 2" rubber plumbing cap on , tighten the clamp and take it to deliver the driveshaft to the balance shop in 4wd.
