Personally I can't think of a better winner for the Statist's Prize Patrol.

If anyone lives up to these backslappers' addage of 'War is Peace' its Barry Satoro.

1. He increased federal military spending in the budget to new gargantuan heights

2. He increased battle ready units in Iraq - through the use of private mercenaries...

3. He moved federal troops from Iraq to Afghan - lending to the deadliest year to date in this unending and illegal occupation based on proven lies

4. He commandeered unmanned drone strikes into Pakistan, killing civilians now in the thousands

5. He willingly reiterates the Iranian fiction of nukes as a pretext for our next excuse for genocide

6. He shielded from the get-go the populist calls for war crimes investigations of torture by the past admin - and maintained most of the posts of those accused.

7. He's not only maintained the police state precedent initiated at Gitmo, but enhanced and applauded its true intentions - which has nothing to do with boogeymen from far off caves - nearly all of which have been released free of charges.

Let's give this guy credit where it's due.

This whole thing has left me at a loss. I thought one had to do something to win the Nobel peace price. He wins for his wishes of how he belives the world should be. Not saying I don't want everyone to get along and be friendly, but I thought you actually had to accomplish something to win the Nobel Peace Prize, not just win for stating how one wishes the world to get along.

Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".

"It is an award that speaks to the promise of President Obama's message of hope," said Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, a former winner.

It just reminds me of a quote from Grumpy Old Men.

You can wish in one hand and crap in the other, and see what gets filled up first.

Mother Teresa was probably the only one that deserved the "honor".

Al Gore won it so that right there tells you everything you need to know.

Created a mess of our country that took sevearl years to fix. At least he didn't win while he was attempting to be the president of our country.

A mess, indeed. IMO, he was given the award as a thumb in the eye of Bush - and this one appears to be the other bookend to make a pair.

The more I have thought about this the more it smells. I would be curious to know how much it costs to buy a Nobel prize, obviously somewhat less than the Olympics.

Although on the evil genius side this would be the perfect way to bring down a Presidency w/o turning the President into a Martyr.

I don't think there's any conspiracy going on in the awarding of the prize. If there was, they sure miscalculated.

The best time to give him the award would have been in the 3rd or 4th year of his presidency so it could be used to bolster support for him in the next election.

I suspect the Nobel committee views Obama as a serious power broker now and in the future and this a personal kiss up action by them.

On the other hand...if you want to talk conspiracies, maybe this the only time in next 4 years that Obama will only be a "little" at war and since he'll be invading and blowing up all kinds of women and children in the next 3 years, better do it now while it only looks a little ironic.

Another possible way of looking at it is aligned with the stated rationale of the committee. It is akin to reinforcing positive behavior in hopes that the end result can be molded..... much like the raising of a child. Since Obamanation has stated the intent to "negotiate" with the enemy, close Gitmo, exit Iraq and has already dumped the missile shield....... the award could be the ego salve that causes him to ignore advice from within.

Nobel officials said their stunning pick was meant to build momentum behind Obama's initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

But then there's the reality of common sense integrity lacking duplicity - the Simplicity of Truth:

Quote
"People can read into it whatever they want," said former Bush spokesman Tony Fratto. "But when you're awarded a Nobel Peace Prize and the first question everyone asks is 'for what?' then you have to question what the motives of the Nobel committee are in making the award."

What a mess we're in.

It certainly does look like it was purchased either by him or for him, and the committee's reason for awarding him the medal doesn't do anything to make it look less so.

It is rather amusing though watching the reporters on CNN and my own local news trying to justify the win, even they can't believe the reasoning behind it.
