couple questions:
1. did anyone get cell service out in the trail? the entire trail or just certain spots?
2. how much gas did everyone use and did everyone needed the spare gas at the end?
3. one pix had a gas station showing $4+ per gallon... where was that?
can anyone print out the path using gps breadcrumbs?
thanks...

I had cell service (digital) most of the time and was able to receive email to my Blackberry.
I went from Laughlin to Barstow and still had about 5 gal. in my tank (plus a 5 gal can). But, I have a 26 gal tank on the Dodge.
I do have the "breadcrumb" trail on my gps and can print it.
I also have some trail-cam video that I will be posting by Sunday night, hopefully.

I have no idea if cell phone service was available as I had mine off. Why do you need a phone on an off road trip?<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />
I had almost 1/2 tank of fuel left in my Montero, but I ran 99% of the trip in 2 wheel drive. I also had 10 gals in my NATO cans left over. I have no idea where fuel was at $4.00, I paid $2.32 for mine in Az.
The water crossing is not a problem, see pictures.
The tracks are available on line. You can find them doing a search. I can download the ones I used if you can't find them.

Cell phone worked almost whole trip. Except area around first night campground. I used 3/4 of tank from Baker to Barstow. HAM repeators: a lot of them accessible from trip area. APRS worked all the time. I was able to rich Baker digrepeator and Barstow as well. Got some problem with front axle disconnect after crossing water. Not directly related to the water crossing. Transfer case harness touched exhaust pipe and melted insulation on wires. Fixed last night.

There is a very expensive gas station about 30 miles east of Baker. I do not know whether this is the same pictured.
When I was going through the part of this trail in 2004, I consumed almost all gas in my tank. That year was wet and the Soda Lake crossing took lots of gas.
Also, I got lost once in the Mojave river flood pan (I had no GPS then) and going through the sand dunes took lots of gas, too.
This year I consumed just 14 gallons on the path Baker-Caruthers-Afton-Barstow.
