Your welds look good especially on the inside. Hope it is going to do the job you are wanting it to do.

I didn't, but that's a good idea, so I will. I've been thinking of making a vent for the intercooler on the Golf for the same purpose as the front wheel well splash guard is right behind it.

I drove it to work this morning. Trans oil temps were 125f for the first 15 mins of 55mph and then rose to just under 150f and didn't move after that. Does that seem normal?

Charlie, have you ever used soldered copper pipe to route trans oil? Any good reason not to?

Copper would be fine, I use aluminum tube myself. Just find a way to form a bead on the ends where a hose gets clamped so it does not blow off.

Right, I suppose it would be much easier just to find generic lines with a bead on both ends. Is there a good source? I wonder if Advance or the like have them in store. Summit has them, but with a bead on one and a threaded fitting on the other, which I guess is for a different type of cooler.

A flairing tool can form a bead especially if it has the mandrel for a double fair.
not nearly as nice as a bead roller but it will retain the hose as things warm up.
I doubt you will find beaded tube at a length you can use.

Thanks Charlie. So if I flare the end of the pipe, the flared edge won't eat away at the inside of the hose?

One idea I had was the cut a ring off the end of the pipe, split it so it will fit over the end of the pipe and solder in place. Think that would work?

Yes, and correct the flair has to be minimal so as not to damage the hose.

I can make a bubble flare to hold the hose clamp and not tear the tube. I clamp the tube in the flaring tool, with about 3/8" protruding (adjust for tube diameter) and whang it with a hammer in an axial direction, which bulges the tube above the flaring clamp enough to hold a clamp.
