While driving on the freeway I noticed that I could only go 45 miles per hour and when I gave it more gas the rpms would increase to 5000 but the speedometer would not move at all past that speed.

Another thing....The exhaust in lower gears sounds kinda like those ricer hondas with those mufflers. The sound of the exhaust seems to have change a bit.

Maybe it is not associated...not really sure.

Auto trans was purchased from Everdrive (used) and replaced like 2 months ago and seals and filter changed etc....And got a nearly new T-Case.....These are the only changes that I did!

Was wondering if it could be the timing belt?????

There also seems to be a general lack of power from the whole vehicle in any gear.

What do y'all think?

Thanks
Mike

Check your catalytic converter, one of them is probably plugged, more than likely the first one. Loosen up the bolts holding it on so there is an air gap and then see what happens. If the power is back you found your problem.

Thanks Homer...Since the exhaust was machined and welded I gotta take it in like friday....(no bolts to disconnect)

Would this clogg prevent it from going to 4th gear?

4th gear is actually the torque converter locking in at 1:1 ratio for fuel economy.this doesnt happen till it reaches a certain temp. 150 or something. homers got good idea. i thought that also.seems to be common.happened to me.

so are you getting up to normal operating temps?

maybe also its not going into "fourth gear" cause of slow speed. check all connections under hood.maybe (carefully) clean mass air flow sensor, just spray with cleaner, also air temp sensor. maybe check o2 sensors.
just throwin some ideas out there.make sure no vacume leaks.any codes poppin up?

good luck keep us posted

p.s. i am no professional, take my advice with a grain of salt, and get a second opinion, and of course wait to see what axe and gary say.

Very good info....Temp is normal

Awesome point although very confusing for me to reply to:

Well the RPMs are elevating and the speed is at a limit of 45 mph----- Now, is the speedometer at its threshhold of limitation due to not going into another gear; or is it Not going into the next gear due to the fact of the fixed mph issue?????

There is potential power involved based on the elevation of RPMs (can put it in the RED if i had to)......

Would this suggest that there is in fact power or not?

All I know is that it won't go above 45 mph!!!

Also it is slightly weaker in the lower gears IMO....

sounds like transmission

As for the weird sounds check your catalytic converter

Blitz & Nukeiridium may be correct.
Check your fluids. I had a transmission in an older Chevy go bad with the same issues your truck has. The torque converter didn't get enough fluid and it wouldn't send the power from the engine to the rear end. I couldn't go over 45Mph either. I was pissed... and kept revving the crap outta the poor engine. Stupid me. Could have caused more damage in my fury.

It is actually a 4 speed auto box, there should be a bit of a rev change at about 35 mph (400-500 rpm) which is the lock-up torque converter locking if all the temps are normal in the engine.

It does this....

So I guess it prolly is not the transmission?

The mechanic put his hand on the back of the tail pipe and said that hardly anything was coming out (except heat). He also test drove it and said that the transmission was working as it should (he is the one who installed it).

I ordered a "walker" front cat at about $400.00 and I will use this with Londhart's manifold that he sold to me.
I figure that it is time to get rid of those crappy suedo-headers that have many leaks in it.

I hope that this turns out to be the problem. If not then at least my tranny has a warranty.........

Thanks for the help as always ya'll

how many times have you replaced the cat on this truck?

They do tend to go bad on sportages!

Plus when you said the exhaust sounded funny like a ricer or something, I had to laugh... mine totally sounded crazy when the cat was plugged! I bet your cat is completely fubar.
