I just finished installing my new oil pump and buttoned up everything when I realized that while everything was going so smoothly i forgot to prime the pump. IS this going to be a large issue, warranting me to remove it and prime it or will it be ok? Is there another way to prime the pump by pumping oil into somewhere in the block? Thanks Chris I also just want to apologize if anybody thinks this is a repeat, I searched for a previous thread and couldnÆt find it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

I know on my 2.4 truck, I pulled the oil pump all out and disassebled it to do a silent shaft delete. All they said was to pack the gears full of grease.
Whats the worst that could happen? Its just a motor......

One thing to try is this: Fill the truck with oil, and loosen the oil filter a couple of turns. Using a blowgun on an airhose, and a rubber donut (or even your hand) to seal the oil fill hole, force air into the crankcase using the PCV hose or similar. Even if you can only get .5 in there, the pressure will force oil up the pickup, through the pump and out the filter mount.
Good luck!

You're really going to want to read this thread, titled "Bob's 3.0L Engine": http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showthread...ge=4#Post916736They start talking about the oil pump around page 19 or so.

You can pour oil down the tube from the oil filter, that sometimes does the trick.

Good luck! This works even better if you have somone crank the engine over while you do pressurize the crankcase. Regardless its always good to pull the plugs to crank the engine over when priming it. Its a lot less work on the starter, the rod bearings dont get loaded up and the motor spins over a lot faster, helping to get the pump primed. All this is worth it to avoid any chance of a dry start.
