The GF's Cherokee roof fabric / liner is falling in. The edges are no problem - double sided carpet tape - any suggestions for the middle where it's sagging?

That would make it sticky on the inside unless I pull it all down and try to stick it back up. Is there some way of pinning it back up? I've seen thumbtacks used before, but they fall out and stick you in the .

If ya don't care much about how it looks you could use a thin aluminum strip and drill holes in it then use 1/4 or 5/16 sheet metal screws to hold it up.

I'd pull it all out and then use some auto grade carpet cut to fit. That way you can attach it with a good adhesive.

S***, if it were mine I'd pull the damn thing out and throw it away. The GF wants it to look like it came from the factory. If I pull it all down I'll be making a mess of it trying to stick it back. I know there's got to be a better way...

BJ - are you saying screw it up through the metal roof or is there something substantial enough under the metal to screw into? If so, I might do that way w/ a couple of aluminum runners.

You meant 1/4" or 5/16" long, not diameter, huh? So the .... Whatever the carp is under the metal will hold a screw?

Howdy tarheel All the roofs I've seen have stiffners across them to keep the roof from wiggleing in the wind.
Take your hand and while pushing up slide it up and down the liner and see what is up there.
See if you can find a stiffner just where the sagging is.
When you find it measure the length of aluminum you need and get a piece from the depot or farmers supply or others..
A 3/4 X 1/8 X 48" should be available.. Then measure equal distances where you want a screw.. every 8-12 inches would suffice. Drill holes in the aluminum that the screws will slide thru without cutting threads.. Then with some help hold the aluminum in place and insert the thread cutting screws and sink em! Only problem would be screws too long would whistle in the wind..

I just replaced the headliner in my 1993 Cherokee a few weeks ago. The headliner board was made of compressed fiberglass covered with plastic film. You have to remove the entire headliner and then carefully remove the fabric covering then clean the headliner board with a stiff brush to get the olt foam off of it and then you glue a new headliner fabric cover to it. You can purchase complete kits for less than $100.00. The complete job took me about 5 or 6 hours.

I'll never find 5 or 6 hours to do this job perfect - I think BJ's aluminum strips may be the ticket. I may even give 'em a rattle can finish so they aren't so obvious...And try not to leave screw points whistling in the wind.
