I stay out of the throttle. I installed manual hubs to lessen the drag from the front axle half-shaft's spinning. Now that it's cooler, I don't use the a/c. I don't have need for AWD here in Phoenix. I keep the maintenance up, particularly the air filter and synthetic oil (Shell Rotella T 5W-40). There's synthetic lube in everything in the drivetrain except for the transmission. My tires are running 35 psi. My alignment is good. I don't speed, and I drive/plan way ahead. No quick starts, gentle acceleration, look ahead for slow-downs or stops and use momentum. I use the slow lane and set the cruise control whenever I can safely and prudently use it.

I get around 16 mpg in mixed driving, pushing 33/12.5 on 15" wheels, M/T pattern in my '95 SR with the 3.5 DOHC.

Feel better?
