My last long trip I averaged about 17 mpg at 70 mph. Anyone that is claiming over 20 mpg had a tail wind and didn't notice.

I have a 95 3.0 LS with 230,000 miles on the odo. I have owned it for 10 years....second owner. I have always gotten about 15 maybe 16 mpg on regular fuel. Doesn't seem to matter if I am on the highway where I am almost always pulling a trailer and motorcycle,...or in town,....or across town.....I generally drive pretty aggressively......probably full throttle acceleration about 50% of the time. I run 33" tires and keep it in "Power" mode all the time ( the 33" tires made a huge difference in the trucks acceleration away from a stop and also speedo reading went from bing about 5 mph high to 2 mph LOW)

my gen 1 MT V6 gets 14mpg. I've notice a recent loss of pep climbing the grade out of SLO town. Maybe it's the watered down gas or maybe the O2 sensor is bad. Wind resistance is a big part of the problem on the Gen 1 for milage.

When I drive below (ok - aound) 70 I get about 19. - 19.5 and sometimes a touch better w/o AC in use.

Just can't seem to behave long enough to keep the fuel economy up there though. You can get run down trying to stretch out the fuel mileage..........

Best ever for town driving was 239kms on 34 liters - I got that to around 20mpg

Last fill up was 212km for 34 liters, town driving.

I drive with a feather on my foot, very rarely take it over 3000rpm, never use full throttle at any time, try to keep the engine at tick-over speeds as often as possible, and roll where possible. No hills. No aircon.

The Mrs took the photo, typical market traffic.

I consistently get around 15 mpg after adjusting for the odometer error caused by my different tire size. City driving here actually involves quite a bit of driving on the freeway at 70 mph. I keep the transmission control switch out of power mode and usually accelerate at a moderate pace.

On a somewhat related topic, I read in one of the major auto magazines that it is actually more fuel efficient if you get up to cruising speed (and the correspondingly higher fuel mileage at cruise) quicker, than if you accelerate very slowly up to cruising speed. The article said that the difference in fuel mileage between slow acceleration & moderate acceleration was less than the difference between fuel mileage at moderate acceleration and cruise mileage, so getting up to cruise speed quicker will ultimately result in better fuel mileage.
