On my current trip through the PNW, I pushed 20mpg at 75 on Washington gas, but the E10 in Oregon has dropped it by 10%.

I don't get it. I use the same amount of gas plus I have to burn water loving ethanol which cost more global warming to produce as well as driving up world wide commodity prices etc., etc.

You always have to expect less mileage with ethanol in the gas. I easily get 20+ mpg hwy at about 70mph without ethanol gas, with ethanol you'll get at least 10% less mileage. So that cheaper price for ethanol (subsidized) gas is bogus. I calculated I could get the same dollars or better per tank for non-ethanol gas for a price up to about 10 cents more per gallon. But I have no non-ethanol choices now that the local Amoco/BP caved in and stopped selling non-ethanol gas. Thank those corn state congressmen and the ag industry. Let's see, using land for gasoline instead of food - yea that makes sense.

I'm pretty pro enviorment and have all the emmisons equipment intact even though I added a turbo (EGR, Cat and pulse air system), but I cant get behind ethanol gas.

I also think it affect some of the older vehilce a bit more since that carb vehicles dont compensate for fuel changes as well. I also think that the lower turbulance hemi style engines might be bit morea affected by the slower flame speed of the ethanol mix ( 2.6).

Around town its hard to get much more than 14 -15 on my Raider. On the highway 18 to 21 is typical. I have gotten 20+ mpg long highway trips, as long as the AC was off. I averaged agou 75 mph. The AC seems to drop the fuel economy by 1-2 mpg.

I also trrned the boost down from 14 or so PSI to around 11, that seems to have helped. On the turbo I think that a by pass valve would improve fuel economy, I just need to get around to setting one up.

What's the ratio of fuel burned to make a gallon of ethanol , like 1.0 gallons of petrolium to make a 1.5 of ethenol.

IIRC, alcohols have roughly half the btu's per gal. as gasoline. I know that alky carbs have jets about twice the xsect. area of gas jets. We used to overdrill gas jets with a drill size about 1.4x the original jet diameter (sqrt of 2 is 1.44ish) when converting to alky on round track cars and dragsters.

Therefore, if you're burning gasahols, your power and mileage will go down. It always looked like a case of ecological correctness geting in the way of good engineering. Mistrust all radicals. They don't let either science or common sense get in the way of ideology...

I just got the best highway only mileage this last weekend, 19.92 miles per gallon on Highway 1 and Sir Francis Drake Blvd out near Tomales Bay and Bodega Bay this last weekend.

I just drove cross country to LA. and i got between 16.7-18.5 mpg.
That was on 265/75/16 stock roof rack. My avg speed was over 73 mph the trip. Made it from Ocean City,NJ to Santa Monica,Ca. in 57 hours.

I went ahead and took my Conferr off for the season. I mainly use it to keep the sun off my roof,,,the dog stays cooler that way. Seems I have my power back, that thing makes for alot of wind resistance.

I have run my MPG 4 times now and am getting 20-22 every time on my 88 2.6.
running 255/75s now but getting ready to put some 31x10.5 on this weekend... wonder what that will do to my MPG?
