Dang, that makes some of the stuff down at Usibelli Coal look like Tonka toys.

Yeah, but Usibelli has erosion problems that outdo all

Yep, lots n lots of glacial silt; not very clean coal, which is why we don't have some kind of steel industry up here. Would beat selling all our scrap to China or letting all the willows grow back up thru it.

I'm always surprised that a Pac rim market hasn't developed for Alaskan coal.

There used to be a Native American mine way the hell up in Wainwright. House coal only. I never got to go to that one; it was inspected out of Casper, WY, at the time. The inspector said he had to stay in an old rail car and freeze his off when he went to that one.

Actually, Korea was buying coal from them for awhile, but the outfit that was buying went seriously into debt, put the kabash on that. It's definitely not foundry-grade coal.

Yeah, you kinda flash freeze up on the far coast. Bring your Carhartt Extremes and lots of water.

Edit: Forgot to mention the state uses a lot of this coal for our power/heat plants along the Railbelt and the highway system. It's what's powering my computer at the moment.

"So what do you do?"

Environmental law enforcement.

I've seen the Komatsu Superdozer's work back in WV.

Potesta?

GO to google earth and look for the brown spots in WV...some of Massey's handiwork. You can see most the giantdraglines from a decent height.

It started with a P, seems like it was Penn Coal? Or,maybe it was the Princess Beverly mines? Been awhile back. I lived in Oak Hill at the Holiday Inn for four months and then in Beckley and Summerville for another four months on inspection and enforcement details.

I've had the opportunity to fly southern WV a number of times, both fixed and rotary wing. Gives one a different perspective on mountain top removal. I'll not offer an opinion on that subject.

Potesta is a coal cop group I know of.

You survived Yeager Airport. Congrats!

Don't think of it as raping the earth...think of it as flattening out land for them pretty Chinese wind turbines. No one wants then in metro areas...might as well park 'em in Mingo County.

Ha! Yeager! Love those little airports nestled between green bosoms.

Ahhh, just googled potesta and coal.
