Doors With Vent Windows, or Not? #971228 11/09/09 03:39 AM

Body Damage is Cool
I was wondering what people feelings are about vent windows on the driver and passenger doors. My '84 xtra cab (no A/C) has them. So does my '89 4runner (w/A/C). My '93, with A/C, doesn't have them.

In the old days vent windows were seen as a kind of poor man's A/C. I think one-piece windows are quieter when closed, with less wind noise. I like the option of cranking open the vents when it's warm but not hot and humid enough for A/C. -- Matt

I like the vent windows in my 88. I call it a crotch cooler!

But they dont like to stay open on the highway.

I love mine. esp up here, we dont really have crazy heat, but when we do, the ball-coolers are nice <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Also, with new seals and a non-rusted frame, they're not loud at all. No whistle/etc.

Now adam, you have to take them out and tighten the adjusting nut (give it some more tension) it should stay open on the highway....

They have adjustable spring tension on the bottom pivot, bottom of the window frame, but you have to disassemble the window to get to the adjustment. -- Matt

I like them, but then I recall when all cars had them. It was always the best way to just let a little air in, generally with less noise than opening the big glass.

For smokers, they are also a great way to keep the smoke from bothering others so much.

I think they really were intended for the age when people smoked in cars alot, nowadays that's just not common anymore.

I like mine not only for the minor venting, but also it's a good way to route a CB antenna cable out the door w/o having to roll te hwinmdow down.

Need a Spot
Found this out first hand ... it is an easy break in point and then it isn't easy finding replacement glass (1985).

How is it a break in point? Mine latch TIGHT. I dont see any way in unless you break the window.

I have that glass available ('84 -'88) if you are looking. -- Matt
