So who has them and how much driving in snow and ice have you done with them. My BFG AT's are down to about 50%tread with right at 50k on them. This summer I put a nice big rip in one of them through the middle of the tread. So I want a stronger tire that will do a little better wheeling but still do good in the snow and ice. I love the AT in the snow and ice but just need more tire for wheeling. If I get the KM2 I was thinking I would sipe the middle tread blocks to help with the snow and ice driving and leave the outer blocks unsiped to keep them from chunking when out wheeling in the rocks.
Any help would be great.

I've heard alot of people rave about them. I just put a new set of the older tread style BFG M/T on my 89 SWB and I LOVE them off road. I don't use it as a daily driver though so the winter driving isn't as important to me. If you check out tirerack.com, each tire has a tire rating based on user reviews as far as how long they last, performance in snow, mud, ice etc. From what I remember they got real good reviews. I needed a set of tires for my 08 Tundra pickup and considered these too but I do too much highway driving to justify a Mud Terrain tire even though I REALLY like the looks of them. I researched and bought a set of the Dunlop Maxx Trac instead. They are very reasonably priced, 10 ply & aggressive but will be good in snow and highway. If you are interested, here's a link: http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/279711-dunlop-rover-mt-maxx-trac.html

Well sadly you won't really find an M/T that will stack up to an A/T in the snow/ice. And you are on the right track as far as siping goes. The more siping the tires come with, the better wet/icy traction they will have. If you want to stick with your 33x10.5s (I am from your sig that is what your running) you will probably want to go with the KM2s.
The only other 33x10.5 option is the Super Swamper TSL Radials. And if you plan on siping them anyway they would be a good alternative choice to the KM2s. They will also offer more traction if you do ever end up off the road in the snow, so you won't have as many worries about getting stuck. Most people rule out Swampers as "too extreme" etc, but its not so true. The Radial TSLs are a more road friendly version of their Bias Ply brother, and the do live up to the Swamper reputation of being extremely tough. So you won't have to worry so much about cuts etc.
But in the end its up to you. A lot of people run the KM2s and after you sipe them they should perform well in the snow/ice. Or go the not so usual route and grab some Swampers, get spoiled by them and never look back.

I love the AT in the light snow and compact ice. I don't know how many times I have driven up to the Mt and for got to put it in AWD or 4wd because it just never slipped or slid on me. What I did not like about them was how easy a sharp rock went through the tread.
As for tire racks rating. I looked and the at has a rating of 7.3 in the ice and the KM2 is rated at 7.0 with it getting a higher rating for both light and deep snow.
To give you all a idea of how much I drive in the snow. I am up at Mt Hood 4 days out of the week skiing. I also rack up around 10-15k in the winter driving to different Mt to ski

I'm not sure I'd recommend an M/T if you are driving in that much snow. The big tread blocks are good in the deep stuff but pretty lousy actually on a plowed or icy road. You could sipe them but then you won't get as good of mileage out of them.
Here's another idea. This is what I do with our daily drivers especially the family car. Drop by the junkyard or whatever and pick up a set of steel wheels for cheap that will fit your truck then mount a set of great snow tires on them (maybe even consider studs) and use them during the winter months. Then, get yourself a set of the km2's on another set of wheels for the warm months when you will be out in the hills wheeling.
If money only grew on trees huh?

Brian,
I was never very happy with my BFG's in the snow. In my experiance there is a lot of room for improvment if ( as others have mentioned) you can go with a siped tire. I went with a set of Yokahanma's Geolandar A/T-S.
These are not a "Tough" looking tire but they seemed like a great all around tire for rain snow and off roading.
Tirerack's reviews are helpfull but can be off by quite a bit since thye are subjective. In general the trends over a wide range are good but comparing a 7.3 rating to a 7.5 might be misleading.
For that I reaad individual reports looking for comments like , horrible in snow or ...
According to Tire Rack the BFG's rate closely to the Yokahaama's, After having run both I dont see it. I thought the BFG's were horrible in the snow.

i was plesantly suprised with my BFG ATs in last years snow. i had no issues climbing any hill or plowing thru a fresh parking lot with ease.
i dont have any personal experience with the MTs or the MT KM2 but a friend of mine has the old MT KM on his suburban and he was raving about how well they took the snow we got last year too. me and him were the only ones that made it to work without chains.

Last year we got a freakish amount of snow and I did some playing with my older BFG MT's (not the KM2) and they did not do all that great but it was runable. My AT's on my truck did much better. Siping should help, but in the end, if you drive conservatively, you will be fine, but an AT will most likely always out perform a MT in ice\snow. Just my $.02.
