my brother will have to verify the work on the front oil seals, but I believe they were also replaced in this service.

what we are trying to determine is, what is still causing the random misfire code? we know for sure the HB was bad b/c the rubber was separated from the metal disc. even after HB was replaced, still the same random misfire code exists.

so is it from a damaged crank or bearings?? OR is it possible that something else needs to be checked out?

thanks to all who have provided input so far, any additional insight is welcome.

It is a really really good question, how was it determined that the engien was bad? I was assuming that it was something more than; cause I just guessed!

A good test is to send a sample of the engine oil out to a lab and or pull the oil filter apart to look for a trashed bearing.

If there are no other signs I agree that a bit of a reach, or reach around as the case might be to say the bottom end is bad.

Scott, first of all. Pittsburgh won! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Secondly. I had too many shots of crown and Sambvka.

In other news... I stand that a rod knock or worn out bottom end will not cause a misfire code!

Literally, I saw a 6G74 DOHC go out, but it did not throw a CEL when I spun my bearing/s entirely.

Hope for the best man.. if he was close, I'd rip it out and do some work.

Who on here is smart with ECU codes?

What triggers the engine to think random misfire?

does engine have ability to recognize build up of improperly combusted gases in combustion chambers?

what sensors or feelers if you will, does the engine use to determine random misfire?

Sigh ...Thank the Lord I stopped the mechanic life at times like this ..

Sorry on the car ..

The dampner in its self being loose could set the code I'm sure ...

Hang a dampner on it see what it does ... See if a new dampner will even stay tight on the crank end ..

Loose dampner can nock like a rod sound ..By the way ..

Could the bad HB have damaged the crank position sensor leading to the code? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Just guessing.

So was a new balancer installed yet?!

On a more serious note, all we know right now is that even with a new balancer installed, after it warms up, there is still a noise in the lower part of the engine and the check engine light still comes on saying there is a random misfire. I am going to call the "tech" this morning to find out more details. I will be posting them up later.

Thanks again for all the imput.
