I don't see any need to mess w/ the snap ring.
No, if it is just a lekay seal att he stub shaft, tehre is no need to take anything apart in the pumpkin or removeteh other side.

Simply...
remove the CV shaft (yes, I know, thsi isn't so easy, prob have to tilt teh whole spindle out).
Remove teh stub shaft. It will just pop out... of course it may take some creative pryin gand profanity, but it will indeed pop out.
Now you can see the oil seal.
Get yourself a seal puller, "rent" from autozone (free) or Harbor Freight etc.
Yank the seal out, clean it well.
Put in new seal. IIRC a 3" (or is it 2.5"?) PVC pipe is a perfect size to push the new one back into place.
Reinstall everything.
Drink beer.

The CV is easy to remove if your torsion bars aren't cranked. :p
You don't have to tear any of the diff apart for the pass. side seal.

And the seal is a lot smaller than 2.5" pipe. Maybe 1.5" pipe. I usually just tap them in with a 2x4 and a hammer though.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks Guys! I really appreciate the information. I have driven it hard for the last week & 1/2 and I don't see a leak (Fluid Level is Good) but I know I will end up changing it sooner or later.

On another note, my rear 3rd member is now leaking. IT NEVER ENDS! I took it apart a few months ago because it was leaking & the gasket I had did not fit, so I used a generous amount of RTV sealant (the old gasket was gone).
Do they make the RIGHT gasket for that year?

Thanks!

Aparently the key is not to use regular RTV - but instead go to Toyota and get their Form In Place Gasket. It's grey.
It forms a fairly pliable, almost rubbery seal that does a better job of handling the constant torque from the gears.

Permatex Ultra Grey RTV is comparable to Toyota's stuff and works well. Available at pretty much any parts store too.
