Need a Spot
Hey all,
Great site. I Just bought an 89 Raider v6 (3.0) 5 spd. I have been digging through your forums for the info I need to get it to where I want it. What are my lift choices without getting too far overboard? Tire sizes? I was thinking along the lines of 2" lift with 34 x 9.5 x 15 LTB's. I am keeping all the driveline intact. And the engine purrs like new. would I just be better off with a body lift? What about when you do a body lift all the crap that needs lengthened? Like the brake lines, shifters, filler, for example? I was formerly a big Jeep freak but I wanted to do something new for a change.

I am trying to keep all specific info on this thread.
THANKS in advance

Welcome, I'm also kind of new.. I also picked up an 89 raider about a year ago and this board is invaluable. Some really helpful guys on here.

For your lift & Tires, just to save you some time contemplating.. Replace your rear springs(assuming you have coils in the back it should if it is an 89) with springs from a GEN II LWB Montero. (1992-1998 ish) You can pick them up from any junkyard for pretty cheap. Then crank your front Torsion Bars (remember to allign the front after doing this) Many guys run this setup especially on the SWB Models it is a perfect lift and will give you about 2 1/2". This set up will allow 33x9.5 or 10.5 easily. I personally prefer the 31x10.5 to allow for flex room in the wheel wells. (33's are a little snug) If this isn't big enough lift for you, go with a body lift in addition. Good luck and post some picks as you complete your mods.

Welcome!

As you've already discovered & some have mentioned 'search' is your best friend. Also check out the FAQ thread above.

And feel free to ask if you can't find something after searching. The search engine can be cumbersome if you're not use to searching 'logically'. Unfortunately computer searches are not always 'human-like' LOL.

Oh and for 34's on your rig, it can probably be done. I know Brian (AKA BS) runs 34's on his gen I v6 however it is a 4 door and not a 2 door.

I personally run 33x12.5's on my 89 2d v6 with a 2" BL, torsion bar crank, and gen II coils and have no issues with rubbing.

Look in my signature and see my youtube link. It sounds like you are looking for about what I have minus the bumpers.

I fit my 33x12.5s without a BL. I do currently have a BL now but for a different reason.

The 2" BL is easy to do with only adjusting stuff no extending. Not that I can recall anyway.

So yours just has the Gen 2 coils in the rear and a cranked tb up front? And you can run 33's?

Before the body lift I had to do minor trimming to the front plastic bumper endcaps. It did not even show. The key is to get the correct rims.

George,
So which rims do you suggest? I prefer steel over aluminum so I can fix em if I bend one up while wheelin. I pick it up Wednesday evening (the Raider) and I will be pretty much digging right into it to get it the way I want.Kinda tryn to get a list of basics I need to get it where I want it.

I have a 3.0L 89 2 door w/ a 2" BL & a 1-1.5" Torsion bar crank & rear gen II coil spring upgrade. I'm running 33x12.5's on 15x8 rims w/ 3.75" offset.

I'm running a "Lloyd bumper" not the stock front bumper.
Here's a pic...
