We just had a '95 SR 3.5L come in. It has the air locker with 4.636 gears. The air pump is there under the passenger side of the rear seat.
Some questions:
1) Is this the locker that works on the Gen1 SWB 3.0L? 2) Has anybody had issues with the gear difference? 3) Can the SR front gears be swapped into the Gen1 3.0L front? 4) I took a quick look, but didn't see a locker switch.... where is it? 5) What other goodies do I want from this critter? Drive shaft?

1) Yes 2) Not that I've heard. 3) Yes but 4.9's from a late model sport are a far better swap 4) Switch is on left side of bottom of center dash under radio area. 5) Can't think of them off hand but someone else will chime in.

My gear difference between 4.636, and 4.56 doesnt matter, so neither should that. 3) Can the SR front gears be swapped into the Gen1 3.0L front?
I dont think so. 4) I took a quick look, but didn't see a locker switch.... where is it? Yep on the console near the shifter. 5) What other goodies do I want from this critter? Drive shaft? to put a 350 in it. Frank [/quote]

3.5 looks like 350 if you move the decimal.

you can swap over the whole IFS from that truck as an upgrade and swap the whole rear. Keep the front 8" diff from the gen 1 though that way you won't have the center axle dissconnect plus it'll be less work.

1) I think they all will so you may as well have the 9.5" diff this one has. The only issue might be the drive shaft U-joint but that seems to be potluck 2) You don't have 4.6 gears in the front already? 3) Nope, 3.5L Gen2 diffs are bigger. Some have talked about a full diff swap but I'm pretty sure it's not a bolt up 4) Next to the cigar lighter forward of the shifter (R/D lock) 5) Drive shaft if your Gen 1 U-joint is different. Front brakes, upper control arms, trailing arms, although you'll get those with the axle I'm sure. I' think that's it.

1) Is this the locker that works on the Gen1 SWB 3.0L? i don't think so since it is behind a 3.5 Sure it will if you swap the entire axle which I assume (I know... I know) is what is being referred to here and not just the rear diff which def won't fit properly in a Gen I rear diff housing) 3) Can the SR front gears be swapped into the Gen1 3.0L front?
I dont think so. Wait... I thought the gear size (8" IIRC?) is the same & this is one reason the ARB 110 fits in both a Gen I v6 and a Gen II 3.5L SR?

Frank Frank, I have made this swap into my Gen I. Here's what you need. Short version; Rear axle, drive shaft flange and bolts that bolts to the third member, the four doughnuts and compressor with it's components. Long version; The whole rear end including the drive shaft flange that bolts up to the third member and the bolts. No need to get any of the ABS stuff or the sensor cable for the locker CPU. Leave the panhard rod on the axle, less dis-assembly that way. The compressor under the rear seat including the metal panel it is mounted on, get the connector along with some of the cable that mates to the compressor. Get the air hose or you can add new. You don't need the locker switch as it's the momentary type. I used a aux light switch for mine. The 4.636 gears should be the same as your Gen I, so you don't need anything from the front end. Get everything ready for the install as I know you will. To install, change the drive flange (brain failure here can't remember the name of the flange) from the SR to the Gen I drive shaft using Mitsubishi universal joints. Remove the Gen I rear and replace with the SR, using your springs if you are happy with them. Everything bolts up the same except use the rubber doughnuts from the Gen I for the trailing arms, 1/2 may work, you'll see. Hook up the break line. Cross the brake cables and reroute. Run +12 volts to the compressor from your new switch you have installed somewhere. Bleed the brakes. That's it, you'll have a locker anytime you flip the switch. Drive around a corner to see if it makes a differences. Next up get some fender flares from JCW like I did.

If I'm not mistaken, Frank already has the Aussie Locker in his front diff...
Frank, I'd just leave the front alone with the exception of the Upper Control Arms. Swap those to your Gen I and call it good. My 2 pennies...

Thanks, fellas - I'm up to my ears today and not enough time to digest all this, but I'll take another look at the suggestions tonight and sort it out.
I did find out why I don't see the switch...... it's gone, along with the lower panel above the console.
