What I meant by the wider axle width is that it should be possible to use wheels with more backspace to get the rear tires (C/L-to-C/L) track width back to approximately where they would be with the Gen1 axle. To avoid using different back-spaced wheels in the front compared to the rear, you could use the same backspace in front and rear if you used wheel spacers in front.
