Frank, I recommend you read my thread on the swap as I swapped in a 96 axle into my 89 SWB. This will answer most of your questions and there are some decent photos.

Also, if you can find my 89 build thread it has a brief description of the front brake caliper swap. title is "New addition to family 89 SWB" or something to that effect.

Don't forget to swap out trailing arms. The Gen 2 arms are the same dimensions on all mounting points, but are thicker in the weak spot and do not snap like the gen 1 arms have been known to do on occasion.
