Just a reference point to throw out there...

I am running 33x12.50x15 tires on my Raider and have cranked my t-bars to the point where I needed to trim my bump stops. After I did my "lift", I had no problem getting the rig aligned to 0 camber.

Frank, it looks like you've got some work to do, buddy! And to think that that rig just landed in your lap!

Sounds like your install was botched, you might want to go through it again.

Frank, I recommend you read my thread on the swap as I swapped in a 96 axle into my 89 SWB. This will answer most of your questions and there are some decent photos.

Also, if you can find my 89 build thread it has a brief description of the front brake caliper swap. title is "New addition to family 89 SWB" or something to that effect.

I would just post up some links for you but the internet is way too slow here for me to figure it out right now. Maybe if you search my user name?

Don't forget to swap out trailing arms. The Gen 2 arms are the same dimensions on all mounting points, but are thicker in the weak spot and do not snap like the gen 1 arms have been known to do on occasion.

Justice, thanks..... I'll do that. I need to use the search function!

I just looked at some 2000 Sport calipers that are in excellent condition with nice backing plates - that seems to be the best path unless the SR rotors and knuckle will fit on the Gen1 - not likely if the upper ball joint is larger on the SR - or unless the SR rotor will fit the Gen1 knuckle. In any event, the Sport calipers should be an improvement over the single piston Gen1.

I hope all's well where you are.

Frank

rear end swap

Frank, try that.

As far as the brakes go. You can go two routes. Simply swap on the gen2 calipers along with the gen 2 mounting brackets. They are a direct swap to the gen 1 knuckles. Dont forget to swap ( or modify the gen 1) the dust shields. Retain the gen 1 Rotors if you want.

Or..DO the same as stated above, but swap the calipers over as well. They will swap over as well. Diameter is the same but the gen ii's are a bit thicker.

No need to swap the knuckles.

The thing I like about the en 2 arms is that the ball joint is a bolt on unit vice the press through fit thats on the gen 1 arms. I dont think they are any more "heavy duty than the gen 1's just different. Another thing I like about them is that the cross shafts are isolated by rubber bushings which transfer less road vibes to the frame. some report a smoother feel with these..I have a set standing by at home in the garage for my 89 but havent tried them yet..

Thanks - I just finished reading the complete thread and went to look at the SR's manufacture date. It's June '94, so that one will need some driveline work to mate to the Gen1 shaft.

Maybe I'm being short-sighted, but I think I'll pass on it and wait to see if a later manufacture date shows up, since I'm not ready to bolt it in right now. All it would do is sit around and probably get damaged.

Thanks to all for doing the spade work on this swap.
