Caps shows 93- mid 96 a different number. With a tape rule both my 95 SR and my 94 MM are the same. But I do agree the PN are different, I thought they superseded to the same part last time I looked. Looks like I should measure a bit better eh.

I took my 89 and 95 drive shaft to my local machine shop. $69 total to cut weld and balance. Very strong and worth every single penny.

I still might get the axle and change the yoke on my propshaft.... there's just a lot of other stuff going on right now, and the u-joint/yoke issue, while not a killer, is another time sink that means I'll have to store the axle until I can get the time to do it. With the engine build going on, stuff at work getting busy, holidays around the corner and with folks coming from CA for a big upcoming football game, time is a luxury. Today, just as I was about to install the heads on the engine, my next door neighbor showed up for a look at the engine....... there went the rest of the afternoon.

I still think it's better to use the later axle if one is available.... it would be easier to remember what u-joint to use when needed and less trouble to do the swap. That said, it also makes sense to grab what's available when it is - particularly at the price.

Frank, If you have the time you should snag the steering box out of that 95 also..Its a little more heavy duty than the 89 unit. It has a thicker shaft, so you need to retain the 95 pitman arm. Kevin C did this one. Its another one of those parts I have in the garage waiting to go in my 89.

Make sure you get the hard lines also because the fittings on the ends are different on your SWB truck.

Frank, get the axle. You won't regret it, I promise. If you need me to come take it out for you, I can work it into my holiday schedule. I've also got an excellent driveshaft man here in Athens. I can take care of the details, if needed.

I just took a closer look at the u-joint and pinion flange. It's definitely larger than what's on the Gen1 V6 Raider. The flange also looks like it would be very likely to hang up on a rock or be subject to damage more so than the smaller version.

Are the later SR locking differentials with the smaller pinion flange also 9.5"?

Why not redrill the flange and turn down the OD?
