With people mounting Jeep transfer cases to Mitsu transmissions, he could run a stock D300 with a Toyota front axle with a little work. No "cutting" involved unless there would be interference down the passenger side for a drive shaft. That would also open up future upgrades like Atlas or Stak transfer cases with minimal added labor. Some research to find the appropriate D300 input shaft would have to be done, but I'd bet a call to Advanced Adapters would yield a wealth of knowlege.
