Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just wondering if anyone has relocated the PCM to another place that sits higher up. After my recent flooding of the interior, I realized that if i had flooded the right side of the car, bye bye PCM. I dont want to extend the wiring, seeing as how there is probably fifty wires to the PCM, which limits me to only about 1' of movement. Any ideas?

Yeah, i guess i will use the original mounts and just move it up one bolt, support it with something at the top. That gives me about 1 or 2 inches higher. may end up just extending the harness.

Body Damage is Cool
extending the harnes may proove risky.

it has about 40 pins or more...
extending it means ( to my mind ) having 2 times 40 possibilitis of something not solderd right or get rusty in due time...

connectios may proove a weak link..

I would advise to see if by loosening the harnes may give you "free" cable to moove the ecu highier without an extension

When I had my Powerchip fitted I placed close attention to this when they were removing the ECU. Once you have unbolted it you actually have a reasonable amount of movement withthe wires leading into it.From memory you should be able to turn the wiring harness around 180 degrees and be able to locate you ECU right up under the dash. Mounting Points to screw into will be the issue.

The ECU is actually quite robust and is able to handle awater dunking. Adskia has dunked his on a couple of occasions and has dried it out and got under way again with minimal consequences (apart from ribbing from his mates form using an exhaust to dry it out).

My suggestion is pull the carpet up, undo the ECU and have a good look at the wiring. There could be a couple of bolts/clips that may hod the wiring harness in postion. Once these are undone you should have the movemement you are looking for.

Cheers, Chris

x2 on that.

I've dunked mine 3 times, water to the top of the gearstick. Dried over a mates demister.

Why not keep it in the same place & find a plastic water tight container to fit it in. Cut holes to run the mounting bolts & wiring, then reseal the holes with silicone.

Needs a good electrical contact to earth, also needs good airflow/metal to metal contact for cooling of the ignition and fuel injection transistors.

All good points from everyone. There is some movement, but not a lot. I like the idea of moving it behind the console somewhere. But then again, if they don't seem to have any major problems with water, maybe i won't really worry about it. I TRY to stay away from deep stuff anyways....
