I'm curious if anyone here has ever applied for their own patent (without aid from or contribution to their employer).

I just started reading about the process on the government website and I think it will take me a while. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

>>>*I started to once, it didn't take me long to change my mind. Instead I now use contractual exclusives and branding, like we do with our racing valves parts lines.

*Those aren't patentable anyway but I wouldn't have tried if they were.

My brother developed a process for coatings on water skis and boats, he did it on his own time at home. At least that is what he said, anyway, I think he might have gotten the idea at his job though.

The company he worked for found out he was trying for a patent, they ended up with the patent and process and my brother ended up running a chemistry lab at another company.

Patents are tricky business, if it's something promising, use an attorney, and don't trust the attorney either....*EB

*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...
