Onto your rear bearing issue, I would try a Dodge/Chrysler dealership if you can't find anyone else. I know you tried a Mitsubishi one, but its worth a shot. I took my 88 into a local (mom n pop type) shop and they had to take the axle to a Chrysler/Dodge dealership. I don't know how they could do it, and a Mitsu dealership possibly couldn't but I haven't had any issues since (almost 2 years now).
