Dach's are crazy brave. Before we married, my wife's family had one named Rodney. He hated the local 90lb German Shephard, and mixed it up with him one day. 2 rolls of surgical wire later, he was back home, and his first target was the GS, like a homing missile. Tehy were bred that way, as badgers are much like wolverines in temperment. Dachshund translates as something like "dirt hound".

What slays me is the minipin and the cat stalking deer. And the fact that the deer run from them. The deer outweighs the cat 4-5:1, and the cat outweighs the dog 3+:1.

Once, the cat stepped out of hiding in front of the deer, who stopped with the damnedest look on it's face, and the dog jumps all the way over the deer's back in a misjudged leap at the neck. The deer proceeded to outjump the dog and outquick the cat (fat slob that the cat is), to the obvious delight of both pets, and off goes the dog at warp speed with the cat in a lopsided 3 legged run just behind, and both falling behinder all the time...

Don't fool with a 'coon. I've seen a boar coon flat tear up 5 coon dogs when he turned on them in the water. I've done my unfair share of coon hunting, both the sit on the log around the fire with the mason jars, and the run thru the woods behind the dogs with the mason jar kinds. Tough critters when cornered. And way, way, too many rabid ones.
