Hey guys, I'm contemplating diving in a buying my first SWB. A lcoal has one for sale at $1000, thinking of offering $700 since it's been smoked in and apparently needs an O2 sensor.

I'm checking all the usual off-site search engiens, and I tried searhcing here as well, jsut wondering what my fellow wire users have used to remove cigarette smell from a rig that ~20 years old

Right off the bat I've thought of loading it up with several baking soda trays/boxes.... A gallon of Febreze?

Or am I doomed to smell cigarette ash forever if I buy this thing?

Clean the inside really well with 409 or similar, use a carpet cleaner and upholstery spray, then put a couple of trays of plain old charcoal briquettes under the seat and change them every couple of months, or so - whenever needed. The smell will be gone in a day or so.

Those two don't add up.

Yes, do what Frank suggests... even though these 2 don't add up.

the link you found has some good ideas. a friend that works in autobody says he puts a sliced apple in a bowl and it works, but I didn't think so. I ended up wiping down everything, used a fair amount of fabreez on the seats and chucked the carpet. the carpet held most of the smell, so when i pulled it, smell was pretty much gone. my carpet was junk, so i didn't try cleaning it, but i would think that pulling it out and washing it would have done wonders.

BG Frigifresh. That stuff is awesome. Even works on cigar smoke smell.

Well, you have to know how to add 2+2 and get 10.

The source of the odor will last a long time because the fibers are saturated and will continue to give off odor for a long time. The charcoal will absorb what's in the air and quickly catch up to the odor emission rate. But, after a while, the charcoal becomes saturated and must be replaced. If you don't replace the charcoal, the odor will return. Perhaps in many years, all odor will be gone, but one tray of charcoal just won't last that long.

Look at it as a bucket under a drippy roof. It'll hold the water for a while, but eventually, you'll need to replace the bucket.

The biggest problem with the 2nd hand stench is ionic.
I'll probably get this backwards but on synthetic fabrics there is a free ion at the end of polyester, el. al., that bonds with some of the stinch molicules in the smoke. I don't know how to reverse that bond. Simple green will get it on surfaces but I don't know how you will ever get it out of the foam and fabric.

leave an open can of ammonia (sp?) in the car for a couple days. That should help about 95%

Ammonia...

Yep, leave a couple of rabbits in the truck to pi$$ on the carpet for a couple of days. You sure won't smell the smoke anymore, I promise!
