Baja is not on the list so I'm deferring my vote until such time it gets on there. While I am inclined to agree, the political climate makes that a questionable option. And, when political stability returns, I know of a great dunes area just south of Yuma that is a New Years Weekend dream run... I have made a few trips there in the past and an looking forward for a return visit.

Sorry, can't join you for all three days. However if the group ends up going somewhere in NorCal I may join you for one day ...probably on Saturday. So for now I'll just follow this thread.
BTW Baja sounds great, definitely a trip to plan for in the future.

Another run I just learned of... Head south down hwy 101, then west thru Fort Hunter Ligget, up to Plaskett Ridge (Nf route above hwy 1 and coast, coooool), come out at Gorda and south into Cambria.
Make way east to hwy 58 at Santa Margarita, travel east to Soda Lake National Preserve, ( remote and has some side roads that are great, and camping ), check out Painted Rock, and enjoy the solitude.
Keep east to hwy 166, cross, hit Cerro Noereste Rd., east to Quatal Cyn, very cool things to see here (and camping), down to hwy 33.
Then, and you have a choice here;
a. North on hwy 33, cross to Cuyama and head up to Cuyama Lookout ( Old , neat, and way up there, some hiking as well in the area.)
Or;
b. South on hwy 33 to Lockwood Cyn. Rd. then east. ( Camping and lots of cool sidings on this route).
Either way continue east into Lockwood, and this will eventually take you to Gorman OHV, where you will certainly find something to do there with your rig
That pops you out on the Grapevine and Hwy 5 ,you can find your way home from there... I'm not personally familiar with this route so I'm still trying to get a sense of if its mostly trail or road.

Ray, is there any way to change my vote on the poll? I'll PM you. No unfortunately we can't change the vote in the post but we can just note that the change 'manually' which may be enough to tip the scales. Change is a natural thing for you women folks. Does that mean there are now three constants?? Death, taxes and change??? Well unfortunately change is a constant in my world Hey Ray, Wish I could make it but my son heads back to camp Pendleton on the first and I can't miss that. Hopefully I can make the next one. I gott'a get out of the house soon. Kirk if it's up here you still may be able to make it a 2.25 day run trip and simply drive up after you son goes back unless you're driving him south. Cow MountainOK based on the voting thus far, I'm more inclined to do a more local run to Cow Mountain. One thing I'm concerned with is they note on their website that they may be closed due to rain/weather. I say we plan for CM but also plan for a backup somewhere else. Also, while AB is very appealing, I think many are simply going to be a bit short on $$ being so close to the holidays and therefore someplace closer just makes more sense. For backup's I'm considering the following... (1) The route suggested to me which I posted above which starts near Monterrey and ends in the Grapevine area. (2) Alternatively we can also consider several other sites all located within a 50 mile radius of Barstow. Barstow is a few miles north of point C in the picture below (Click on map and click again to select full screen. Map scale is in the lower left). ![[Linked Image]](http://inlinethumb26.webshots.com/45081/2643848880104986527S600x600Q85.jpg) Again these alternatives are in case it rains over the New Year weekend.

30% chance of rain on New Years day according to Weather.com.
Since Cow Mountain is closed when it rains please be prepared for an alternative location for the run.
