My brother does an annual BBQ where he puts a pig or goat on a spit over a charcoal fire.
I have been with him a couple of time where we have tried to single out one goat from a group of fifteen.
Now, consider all are within the same age group and the effort is to get just one.
And, you are in a 20 foot diameter pen.
Goats are extremely agile and quick; especially when two 50+ dudes are trying to get some kind of hold on one.
So, there we were, two of us with lassos trying to get one goat out of fifteen in a 20 foot diameter pen.
One year we spent over 30 minutes to get one. The next year, the wiener dog got involved and we cut the roping time in half.
Ever seen a wiener dog take possession of a "kill"???
She wouldn't let my brothers 2 90+ pound black labs and border collie near the butcher site.
So, a "goat rope" is a comical effort to catch one of a group that are doing their best to evade capture.
Sort of like trying to heard cats....

Yeah, but goat on a spit over charcoal is a great taste...
Ever tried to understand the meaning behind the term "goat rope"??? When I was in flight school in Mineral Wells, TX, I learned (second-hand) that one of the insults guaranteed to start a fight in that area was to call someone "a goat-roper". Evidently anyone who would stoop to roping a goat was the lowest form of life imaginable.

Goat roping isnt that bad, now chicken roping on the other hand
When I was a wee younger me and a few of my buddies were at the state fair, they sold what I was told was a "chicken rope" a regular rope mayber 1/8in in diameter maybe 10ft or so long. And allegedly in Arkansas they really have events called chicken roping.
We tried roping chickens, its all but short of undoable.
We all carried are "chicken ropes" everywere with us, small enough you could do use em anywere even inside if you were bored. I ended up breaking mine when I got a 1200lb steer on the end of it and couldnt roll it off of him.
I still wanna get me another chicken rope.

My wife responds to the BBQ idea with:
1. She's not above eating meats of various types. 2. Have you seen Fatal Attraction? 3. Where do you live and what is your family pet? 4. Everything is good with Teriyaki.

1. Glad to hear it 2. Dont think so. 3.
