My brother does an annual BBQ where he puts a pig or goat on a spit over a charcoal fire.

I have been with him a couple of time where we have tried to single out one goat from a group of fifteen.

Now, consider all are within the same age group and the effort is to get just one.

And, you are in a 20 foot diameter pen.

Goats are extremely agile and quick; especially when two 50+ dudes are trying to get some kind of hold on one.

So, there we were, two of us with lassos trying to get one goat out of fifteen in a 20 foot diameter pen.

One year we spent over 30 minutes to get one. The next year, the wiener dog got involved and we cut the roping time in half.

Ever seen a wiener dog take possession of a "kill"???

She wouldn't let my brothers 2 90+ pound black labs and border collie near the butcher site.

So, a "goat rope" is a comical effort to catch one of a group that are doing their best to evade capture.

Sort of like trying to heard cats....
