I would say look for a Subaru WRX wagon, they are bulletproof, fast, amazing on winter roads, and very VERY reliable. and they use Mitsubishi Turbos on them <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

We have an 06 Mitsu Outlander AWD (the 4banger, before they made it more truck-like). No problems at all, and does great in the snow. Wife loves it...

You know Phil I actually talked my mom into a FWD one and it has been great for her.
I'll have my wife drive one next time we are out looking.

Get an Audi S4 Avanti. The twin turbo v6 model <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
It'll eat the subi and volvo for a light snack. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
Chip it, upgrade the turbo's, do a cat back exhaust, and upgrade the brakes and suspension and go hunting. If you're a bad shot you can use it to run down the game <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Umm... I think reliability is a consideration here. What have you done with your S4? Does it still need enough work done that you could buy a GenII with the cash instead? Oh, wait... That's exactly what you did! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> LOL, well they're reliable if taken care of. In my case I took care of it but I'm not sure the orig. owner did. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Regardless though its a beautiful paperweight, I mean 'car'. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

A Many have had leaky AWD units. Most have complained about the cheap feeling of the Outbacks.
Oh yea, that reminds me....she also had the AWD unit resealed. ANd yes, to me, it feels cheap.

I don't see where your saying they feel cheap? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> My Legacy Outback has nice heated leather seats and and leather wrapped steering wheel... Then again, I did change up from a Montero and Raider <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />. I can say that I wish they gave the Outback a turbo because that 2.5 can barely carry its own weight up a hill let alone a few 200 pounds passengers. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

So far, our 2004 outback has been very reliable, just regular maintenance. Of course we haven't hit 60k on it yet either. The heated seats are very nice, mine are the cloth version. In 2005, they introduced the Outback XT, which is turbo'd. 250HP, 250 torque, IIRC. At times, I wish we had gotten the turbo, but then the 30+ MPG we get on the highway wouldn't be there. The Subie serves my family of 4 just fine right now. As far as the cheap feel? That depends on what you're used to.

I guess compared to my 4Runner, it feels cheap. The engine is real "buzzy" sounding, tranny shifts hard, and everything vibrates. My 4Runner engine is very quiet, smooth, and the tranny shifting is virtually seemless.

Well, in my LandCruiser owners manual it's refered to as a 4WD Wagon <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Has no known issues except it's very hungry <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
