This guy took his Volvo on an offroad trip with some real 4x4s. There is even a couple Pajero SWBs in there. ...take if from me...stay away from Volvo wagons....at 80k-100k they start falling apart....and they are expensive parts. Our XC-70 was great looking, but a deep money pit.

I almost didn't take the advise Ive been given by everybody. Run away! is what I was told by many Volvo guys.
The v70 was an abomination to Volvo. Volvo wont even offer an extended warranty on a car they have serviced.
They are just so perfect in every way....every way except the getting you to your destination. No wonder they got such great crash ratings, nobody ever got to drive them long enough to crash one. One Volvo dude I talked to said "Oh yea they are real safe AND comfortable while your waiting for the tow truck."
I love car guys....we are a funny bunch.

He kept telling me it was "low mileage". I replied that "low mileage" was the only way they came. No one could keep one running long enough to get high mileage.

Fiero's were aptly named. Any high mileage one had a lot of scorch marks in the engine compartment and some melted plastic body panels.

We have a guy up here who is a Toyota/Subaru specialist where we take our newer Toys. Says he didn't like the newer 'Roos; engine problems etc. Roomie was in the market for a newer rig; Corolla has 380K on it now. Original.

My investigations came up with the same. Subaru didn't have the right cooling system so the engine got hotter than the narrow gasket surface could handle and numerous blown head gaskets are the result. Because of the head gasket issue alone The Subarus were marginally better than Volvos for reliability. Many loyal Subaru owners believe Subaru has known it to be a design flaw yet refused to issue a recall.
Supposedly the H-6 engine does not have the same issues. The engines had enough material for the gasket to do its job.

Nuts, I must have skipped the first page on my last post.
Opinions on the Subarus seem really polarized. Every year I go and look at a WRX and decide it's either not practical with the family or not reliable enough.
Phil Edmonston's lemon aid does not say particularly good things about Subaru anymore, he thinks they have fallen way behind Toyota and Honda in quality.
Sounds like he's right, once they get some mileage on them they don't do so well...
