Ok I finally made headway. I took it out and drove it till it would not even fire. I pulled the coil wire and had good spark and pulled the fuel line to the carb and cranked it..nothing which immediately made me excited that I finally found it, I mean come on it has to be the fuel pump. Just to make sure I decided to pull the inlet to the pump and stick a hose in a gas can and when I pulled off the fuel line inlet I heard the vacuum release. I knew then there is a blockage somewhere in the line and the fuel filter is new. I stuck a spare piece of hose in the gas can and it fired right up and ran great until it pulled suction on the fuel line again.

I just hope its not in the tank, hopefully one of the rubber lines seperated and is sucking shut.

Anyone else had this issue?

Mine was doing exactly the same thing, see if it has to do with operating temperature. Mine was acting up when getting hot. It was vapor lock. You need to check the line that goes from the charcoal canister to the tank IIRC. The vacuum pulls the vapour out of the tank. Hope this help.

Pull the tank sender unit and check the pickup filter, and blow out the lines. Old fuel can varnish the plastic sock bad. You can pull the unit without dropping the tank. Pull the tank drain and see what kind of crud is in the bottom. Put a vac pump on the line on the tank side of the filter and see what happens, using a brake bleeder attachment. see if the new filter is already clogged up with varnish crud. Check for rust dust in the fuel lines...

The line was collapsing at the tank and was replaced. I put a nipple in at the carb fitting (the ones that do not need a clamp) to blow into the tank and was easy to blow through the filter and into the tank. I found the problem!!! I couldn't get the nipple out and ran downstairs for a pair of pliers and on the way up the steps it caught fire. Evidently the little bit of air I blew (with my lungs) pressurized the tank and started a syphon which the propane heater ignited when it hit the floor. Raider was a total loss but the house was spared. Garage is in bad shape. I cannot stress enough having GOOD fire extinguishers and knowing their location. So this project is 'toast' sadly.

Oh man, that is scary chit. We had a house fire way back in my parents house. Didn't lose the house, but my family spent three months is a hotel. (I went back to college.)

Glad you and the house are okay...

If you really want them I will get them of the house and Raider. Sadly it turned into a very clean ride to a 250.00 new project for someone else I was so ready to go snow bashing and not have to worry about 'breaking something plastic' like on my Liberty. This sucks! We are very fortunate that I saved the house and it was a close one.
