Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well after I put a ton of money into restoring my '87 dodge raider the oil pump went out and the carb still needs a rebuild. I'm just curious if there is an easy v6, 6 or v8 swap? Please let me know what you think. I would love something with more horse power off road but I love the SWB on the raider.

Haha damn economy is really messsing with my project plus I think the car it's self has it in for me. I used seafoam to fix the breather valve on the carb and worked for two days. It only desided to stop working about 300 ft from the smog shop lol.

The most common is the chevy 4.3. What's your idea of a "ton of money" as there are many levels of pain $$$. Any motor swap in CA you have to go thru the referee smog process and the new motor has to have all the emissions functioning.

Go look at the index of tech threads stickied at the top and read the turbo bible post, and I think if you use an 87-89 starion/conquest donor, you can get it to pass smog pretty easy, probably get it past the smog tech without a referee.

And I think there are an equal # of turbo and 4.3 conversions.

^^ and this.

4.3 TBI is probably the best bang for your buck.

edit- don't recommend a dodge magnum 5.2 swap... not easy.

I have to make a decision on which engine and trans to put into my '88 Raider. I saw you have a 4.3. Did you swap it out yourself? What Trans did you use? What did it cost you in parts? Are you happy with the result?

The 4.3 swap is one to search. Lots of past threads and a few now running that drivetrain. LandRaider was an early one and yes, he most certainly did the work himself.

Search the past threads, then post up you specific questions and answers will abound. There is also an article in the Mitsu Tech area from when Bob Shaw did his a few years back now.
