It doesnt run well enough to pull it yet.

And once it does he won't have to move! Seriously, smog is not that hard to pass. I actually liked living in an area where all the vehicles had to pass. Nothing worse than getting stuck behind a car with no cat that runs poorly.

Yeah... I know it doesn't run that well yet. And yes I do get the back handed "compliment " about the lack of a cat.Ya know what guys... If this country goes totally to electric cars,China & India are still gonna kill the planet anyway.

Google 'White Zombie'... cool car, been considering something like that for Stumpy.

<ahem> Back on topic... I suspect a new catalytic converter and O2 sensor will deal with your failing numbers. I haven't had the pleasure of the new evap test yet so I can't speak to fixing that one...

That worked for my '89 Raider last year anyways, and for the '97 Z3 I just bought. The numbers were really, really good.

So Clay, IIRC you did smog tests before right? Based on those numbers what do you think is wrong? Just a cat or something more? Did the smog tech have any recommendations that were worthwhile?

Russell's driving south. Maybe he can bring you a Cat from a Gen I V6 4 door?

Because... like... it's... like... kewl dood!

It was a very common way to talk especially among kids since about the 80's.

Anyhow, thank you for the slight detour but back to the topic at hand... Clay, maybe Russell has a LWB V6 cat among his spares.

Oh, I know exactly what's wrong with it, I just resent having to spend more money on it.

The O2 sensor is 20 years old, the catalyst isn't properly working, I have an exhaust leak I'm still putting off fixing and it was probably overheating a little on the dyno.

I'll test the O2 sensor tomorrow, but I already know it's lazy.

They changed the laws regarding catalytic converters last year. I just found out today. Now, it's illegal for shops to sell generic (cheap) converters like the one I put on to pass 4 years ago. They are all vehicle specific and must have valid EO numbers. That doubled and tripled the prices overnight.

So, it'll be $200 for a cat, $100 for an O2 sensor, I have to drill out the broken bolts for the exhaust manifold and replace them, probably should replace my still leaking heater hoses and flush the cooling system.

Or, maybe I should find a job first. I'm not particularly happy about having to spend this kind of cash when I'm not even working.

To top it all off, we went to the tire shop for a flat repair on my wife's van and drove away $95 poorer when they found the leak was in the sidewall. Tires are stupid expensive now.
