I have the above vehicle with Warn manual front hubs. We had about a foot of snow and I was using the 4x4, we got to a parking lot that was clear and I was turning. There was some binding, but nothing I have not experience before, so I just gave a little gas and POP, now the 4 wheel drive isn't working. I need to know if I popped a hub or the front diff or the transfer case. Which is more likely and how can I trouble shoot in the drive way? Looking for some insight. I gotta get this fixed, we still have three months of winter left!
Thanks

Update:
It appears that the short half-shaft in the front is about 1/2 an inch out of the differential housing, like the ring and pinion pushed it out when in a bind.
Is that possible?
What is the best procedure for getting it realigned and inserted completely?
Four wheel drive does not function in this situation, but the car otherwise operates normally, is this correct?

to realign it;block the rear wheels, jack it up and support it on a jack stand...remove the wheel and then jack up the control arm to bring it as level as possible and push it into the diff until you feel it snap into place

Update: All fixed up. Thanks for the help, had to remove the hub, rotor and loosened the steering arm and lower A-arm, raised it around the axle. Straightened and pushed it back into place, reassembled everything, double-checked everything, tested both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. Working great. Learned a valuable lesson.
DON'T FOOKING DRIVE ON DRY SURFACES IN 4X4!!! At the very least simply shift into 4x2 for parking. That was a close one! Could have really boogered the front drive system.

No, It shouldn't be able to pop out even under load. the spine should normally be 2" long and usually has a C clip which is what pop's back into place.. The spines are in a axial direction, it shouldn't be affected by rotational force unless it was'nt properly installed at a prior time. To remove half shafts you usually have to use a pry bar and hammer to get the C-clip to let go inside the diff. Pry bars have a lot of leverage! Was probably not fully installed into the diff housing. Was there any gear oil leak? might want to check your front diff fluid level to be sure! Good thing ya found it!

Not sure what happened. I should have time this weekend to check things out, now that I am comfortable attacking the front drive-train. Any advice on what to look for? I'll pop out the half shaft and check it, I will also drain and replace the front diff lube. This is a weird one.

Update. We got more snow. No 4x4, only 4x2 at the moment. I checked both hubs, they both lock to the axle. I gotta find out if the transfer case or the front diff is boogered up. I don't really have the facilities to jack the entire car, both axles off the ground. Nothing is visibly broken, cracked, leaking, etc. No noise comes from the front end or the TC when 4 wheel drive is engaged in Hi or Low. TC does engage, the gears, I just can't check if TC is outputting power to the front wheels. Any recommendations on a shade-tree method for determining if it's the front diff or the TC???

Determined it is the front carrier, back tires spin, 4x4 Hi or Low, front shaft turns, hubs checked and they lock, so it's definitely the front carrier assembly because not power to the front. Damn! Sourcing them now on ebay, unless someone knows a good source for the front diff gears.

Upon further testing. I can lock BOTH front hubs, jack up one side and turn the wheel, it turns the front shaft, but no attempt to turn the wheen on the ground. This occurs on BOTH front wheels, no matter which side I raise off the ground. This is definitely a front carrier issue, I was just hoping for a method of repair, rather than replacement. Any ideas?
