How many here have gotten into this? I've been excited to try it as a family event, and the first time my kids tried it with me, they were hooked. Then we took my wife out and she was hooked instantly.

Interestingly, getting my wife involved has raised the standard for what will be an acceptable family GPS receiver. We've decided on the Garmin Oregon 400t.

For mapping, it turns out there are a whole bunch of free topo maps available for free on the internet. I'll post up details after we receive our GPS and try it out a little.
