Getting the Wheeling Fever
well, after lurking on the forum for ~4 months and asking a few questions, i finally found 4runner that was both a good deal and a good truck. it is a '98 4x4 sr5 5-speed manual with 52k on the odo, anthracite gray. i *love* this thing! i have always wanted a 4runner, ever since i first saw a 2nd gen with 4 doors, and now it is like a dream-come-true : ) the first thing i did when i got home last night with it was to order a dynomax muffler qand a monza tip. next (today sometime) will be an amsoil airfilter, with the deckplate mod to be coming when that gets installed. soemtime down the road, i am going to sell the tires that came with it (only 8k miles on them), and get a set of 31's on it (can anyone recommend a particular size of 31" tire that will work with the stock suspension setup?). thanks for all of the info and help in answering my questions up to this point.

p.s. here are the pics that the owner originally sent me. i will be able to take some of my own pics when the weather gets a little nicer outside : )

Looks like it's in really good shape. No dints or dings in the bumpers. Do you get to keep the roof rack?

Enjoy, and you'll soon learn the joy of modding out a $Runner

rtdawgs - i don't really have too much more than that planned right now. of course i would *love* to put headers and a supercharger in it, but my girlfriend would kill me because of the cost (it's half hers). the previous owner (the original one) put in a killer stereo, so the only thing i will probably do with that is to change out the tape deck he put in and put in an alpine cd player.

tx4runner - the rack came with it, but i already have a thule rach with all of the accessories i want for it (ski and bike racks) from my other car, so i ordered some thule towers to attach my thule rack. at that point, that yak will come off and be for sale (it is the rack itself and 3 bike attachments, all with matching locks). i will advertise it on the forum here when i am ready to let it go.

everyone else - thanks for the compliments. i have never thought i would ever own a brown-colored car, but this color is definitely growing on me. it isn't really brown, it isn't really gray, and it isn't really bronze. it is a really hard one to describe, but i think it looks really nice. i can't wait until snow season... it was getting *really* old putting chains on a lowered acura legend when we went snowboarding : )

Wallstrum- Where do you go snowboarding at? Big Bear? or Wrightwood(Mt. High)? Just guesses, I live in SD, that's where I go. I'm guessing that Santa Rosa is in So. Cal. Anyway, your truck looks great, I'm jealous.

Don't do anything to your half hers 4Runner. What are you going to do when you break up? Who gets the air filter? Who gets the deck plate? Consider this as a tip not a warning
