I was driving the interstate near my home about 2 months after I got my Sporty. Came around a blind curve on an interchange and the traffic was dead stopped. I hit the brakes, pavement was nothing but black ice and I ended up going in circles. Bounced off the guardrail on the right side of the highway and took out the front bumper. Slid across the road to the guardrail on the opposite of the ramp and took out the back bumper. Nothing else scratched or anything. The guardrail did stop me from going over a 50 ft embankment though and there was no traffic behind me so I kind of lucked out. I ended up buying a winch bumper from Dave with the insurance money. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Didn't have anyone cut me off nor did we crash but I sure know how you all felt!!
We were headed east over the North Cascades highway (Washington State) in a 1977 22' "C" class motorhome pulling a 22' ski boat with surge brakes. Had my wife, 3 daughters, 2 nephews and my favorite dog with me. They were all out back playing games, listening to music and had no clue what was going on. We were on the east side of the pass which at times is very steep and winding back and forth. I had been pumping the brakes from time to time because I didn't really need to use the gas and all of a sudden my brake pedal goes to the floor! I pump it a few times but nothing!! We're building up speed going faster and faster then I notice off to my right is a 500' embankment filled with 4' stumps and no guardrail!!! I don't say anything to the family because I don't need 6 other people freaking out right now. So, I keep it on the road best I can and use the e-brake and transmission to help slow us down. It seemed like an hour but really was only minutes and we finally came to a stop. Thought everything was over but discovered another problem ... we're on fire!! Had flames shooting out of both front wheel wells. I guess when the brake booster went it leaked fluid down the lines to the already smoking hot brake disks and caught fire. Luckily I had working fire extinguishers on board and was able to put it out without anyone getting hurt nor a lot of damage to the rig.
If we had gone over that embankment, the motorhome would have come apart much like the fence that Blitz destroyed!! I spent the rest of that long weekend thinking of what could have happened and how lucky I am.

It's really good to hear that you and the Sporty are safe. Now I gotta say it... Ye-Haw!!! Urban 4x4ing at it's best. You totally kicked a$$ man. You got to cheat death, scare the poop out of an old geezer, jump that rig off a colvert, tear down a white picket fence and totally thrash somebodys front yard. To top it off, you got away with no ticket, little damage, money coming your way, a way too cool story and the pics to brag about it. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. lol..glad to share and hear others, and that were all still here to laugh about them now. ive got 3-4 buddies died in car wrecks,1 sister inlaw. tragic stuff. insurance lady told me yesterday it sounds like the car is a writeoff, and an ajduster was going to come by and look at it. also told me prepare to be dissapointed becuase he had low coverage and they also have to fix the fence, so i would get less than i normally would. so after she gets bill for fence she will tell me what i get for kia. then i heard there is an option to buy back the car after payoff. i want to keep the car,and try ti fix it even if they write it off.i just hope i get enough to get it close to where it was. "69442" im gonna pm ya when i get some numbers and see what you think. never been down this road. advice, comments, suggestions welcome... "96nzsportynaz" its an older 2 inch version of "upyourkia" spacers with eibach springs(discontinued 2 inch lift kit). kyb struts/shocks. these kyb's are stiff, but at times like these they are what help alot.

how much damage did it do? looks like the hood and the drivers side running light. hope you have under insurance, thats why I carry it incase the other guy does not have or has low insur. just a word to the wise, if you own a home having min. insurance doesn't make it if you are at fault you could loose the house. So don't back down, get his min insurance then if you have under-insurance get that also. someone posted they are with insur. here ask him the in's and outs

So don't back down, get his min insurance then if you have under-insurance get that also. someone posted they are with insur. here ask him the in's and outs Not familiar with the term UNDER Insurance? Most policies have limits of coverage. There's Collision cvrg which takes care of your own car and any property damage you're liable for up to it's limits. There's Liability cvrg which excludes your rig but covers property damage to others that you're liable for up to it's limits. There's Comprehensive cvrg which takes care of things like theft, flood, falling trees, rodent dmg, impacts with animals etc. There's Un-insured motorist property damage (UMPD) cvrg for all the A-holes that don't have the minimal liability cvrg. If you already have collision cvrg & it's proven that the other party doesn't have cvrg at all this just lowers your deductable in many cases. Some carry the minimal liability cvrg and UMPD so that their car can be repaired in the event the accident isn't their fault and the other party is un-insured. Now, the comment about loosing the house ... if you have minimal liability cvrg with low limits and are liable for a huge loss or fatality, a good adverse lawyer can suck you dry!! Basically soak you for any equity you may have in your home, bank, cars, toys etc. So if you don't have Bill gates like funds, make sure your agent has you well covered. One simple mistake can change your life forever!!
