We're in intermission at the drivein talk'n about our rides! Funny you mentioned your fathers 57 rocket being red on red, so was mine .... loved that car! Your right, loveliness is in the eye of the beholder because I thought most pre 1968 cars were a big box on wheels! And, chevy's were like a$$holes, everyone had one! My buddy had a 67 442 which went straight ok but didn't handle like mine. My 69 came with stiffer springs and huge frt and rear sway bars.

There was a $20 HD suspension option on the 67 that was the same package. Funny, I never went to the concession stand at the drive in. Always too busy doin' sumpin else, I guess, and there was a cooler in the trunk. Yeah, everybody and his brother had a Chevelle Super Sport 396. Funny, the fastest chebby in my town was a 66 chebbytwo with a 327/375hp, at least until Chigger Bates got the 302 Camaro d motor, and even he couldn't beat the Fairlane with the "390", which turned out to be a Monday car that got a 427 by mistake. Great times...

We're way off topic but what the hell it's my dumb post anyway!

I didn't say anything about concessions, I said intermission. Besides all the smart people brought what they needed and only left to use the restroom.

So, do you know what 442 really stands for? You'd be surprised how many 442 owners don't even know......

yup.

In the first year, with the 330 v8, it meant 4bbl carb, 4spd tranny, and dual exhausts. After that, it meant 400ci, 4bbl, and dual exhausts.

I wrecked a pretty cherry 442 my freshman year of high school. No license, no insurance and drunk as hell I managed to convince this guy to let me drive his vintage Oldsmobile. The owner of the vehicle was with me when we wrecked so he didn't want any cops involved.....

You are correct, 1964 - 1965! But it changed again in 67 when they offered the downgraded 2bbl carb and then again in 69 when they offered the rare 455 engine!

kinda lost it's true meaning after a while but I still like the car.

Ya, wrapped mine around a tele pole my junior year of high school! No alcohol involved just way too fast for my inept abilities at the time.
Impact was at the drivers door going backwards which banana'd the car opening the passenger door as it spun in the air 180 degrees and out I went!
Oh, forgot to mention ..... not wearing seat belt. Now you know why I speak of the car in a past tense.

Yea I didn't need alcohol to loop that car. it just made sure the car was worthless afterwards.
