Getting the Wheeling Fever
After replacing the entire Brake System and Painting the beast I have discovered my O/D problem is not a simple switch but will require a complete trans rebuilding. I would rather replace the A/T with a lower mileage one. Does anyone know of one out there? What other model Vehicles can I use?

Call Jeff 904 314-6092

Thanks!

youre stuck with a montero/raider

OR swap in V6 auto and transfer case along with other components

OR put 35s on it, rendering the O/D useless in almost all situations (pa_jero runs 35s and rarely uses O/D...)

You can use the V6 auto from 89-90 if you swap the bell housing. It's a bolt up to your existing transfer case.

The bellhousing requires a new O ring and it partly an extension of the OD and the front pump. The good news is you dont need to open the unit up to do the swap.

For a stock 2.6 I would reccomend using the non lockup tranny.

So why is the transmission bad? I thought the same thing with mine, then thru here, rxinhed hooked me up with a harness and all the switches that is part of the O/D system. Hopefully whoever told you this checked all the switches and relays before telling you this. A couple of the responses here weren't terribly serious or practical for your daughter to have as a daily driver. Unfortunately I don"t know of a local mechanic shop that has impressed me in their knowledge of the Mitsubishi, and I would be willing to help but I am about to be gone for 3 months on business. But if I were you I would slow down and get a couple of opinions before you jump in on a transmission rebuild. My 2 cents.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I took it to Clay Transmission on 220. I was hoping it would be a small problem since i've already spent one and a half times more than I paid for the truck. So I'm in DC now and the guy calls me and says it would be $1800 to rebuild the tranny.
I can't do that so found a mechanic near mayport that seems like an honest guy. I'm going to have the Raider towed there tomorrow for him to look at. He feels it might not be so bleak.
BTW if I did go with 35s instead of the 235/75/15s would that really make a noticable difference in RPM?

Is that a 1989-90 V6 Montero transmission? Will it work with the stock transfer case?

What RPM do you run at 65 mph with the 35s?
A creative solution...

35s were just a cheap option. Since they are 7" taller than stock, it changes freeway RPM so much that it would just drop a gear(3rd) and at about 70mph it will be just over 3000rpm.
You would need 4-5" lift to fit them though...
