Tires loose some air pressure in the cold weather naturaly. Cold shrinks. I think.
Cold Weather And Your Sportys Tires:
Your SportyÆs tires need to maintain the tire pressure listed in your ownerÆs manual.
If you have oversized tires, then look online for the manufacturerÆs specifications for that specific tireÆs cold pressure rating.
The tire pressure recommended in the manual is what is called a cold pressure. This does not mean that it is only for cold weather; but the temperature that your tires should have been before you starting to drive on them for the day.
Once you have driven on the tires they are warmed up. If you measure the pressure after driving, you will get an incorrect reading.
It is recommended that you check your tires weekly during winter months.
For every 10 degrees Fahrenheit change in the outside temperature, the tiresÆ air pressure will change by about 1 pound per square inch (psi). This measurement falls with colder temperatures and rises with higher temperatures. Adjust measurement according to temp.
Avoid deflating your tires in an effort to improve traction on ice or snow when driving on the highway or in the city. This method does not work. Severely deflated tires generate a lot of heat and may blow out, causing an accident. (Deflate only when 4x4ing off road).
Sporty lives out side in the cold. (No Garage).
Expect to have ôsquare tiresö after sitting overnight in severe cold climates. The warm air in your tires rises and the cold air and ground cools the bottom of the tire. So the tire goes ôflatö. This will resolve itself once you begin to drive and the air starts to circulate and warm itself.
This can be seen more often in bias tires than radials, but is not always the case.
Remember to drive slowly till the tires warm up to operating temperature. Driving in excessive speed with ôsquare tiresö can lead to ply and/or tread separation causing an accident, because of the tires heating up excessively.
