Obviously ripping open your diff on a rock in the middle of a pristine Trout stream is bad but from what I've read about the Rubicon it is not the 4x4 trucks that cause bad water in surrounding lakes...it is the fact that too many people crap next to the trails above the lakes. If the trail were closed to off-road vehicles there would still be hikers and horseback riders crapping along the trail. There just happens to be more wheelers on the Rubicon so they have blamed wheelers and their hobby ....wheeling. Does this sound accurate John?? We should just build composting toilets along the trail.

The fecal coliform contamination was a couple of years ago and it is directly related to the number of people. However, the original issue did not differentiate between wildlife and human as the source.

The last bout (and current) with the CVRWQB dealt with hydro-carbon pollution - targeting motor vehicles. However, the issue did not differentiate between 4x4 recreation and run-off from a logging operation just upstream from the sampling point.

FOTR/RTF is pushing the use of porta-potties on the Rubicon as temps and soil conditions are not right for composting toilets.
