next weekend I think I can go take another look and maybe just grab it if it looks good.
I'm pretty sure it is the worm drive because I specifically remember the gearbox orientated differently than other winches I've seen. Also I remember it's definitely a Warn not Ramsey, had the big red "W" logo on the side.

The ones I used always used the PTO.

Those are usually on the heavy duty trucks, we have them on our rolloffs. Nothing beats a hydraulic winch as far as power and duty cycle but the worm comes closest and is the best winch for 4wheeling period.
